Situation

This electronics giant was challenged around the globe and looking for new ways to distinguish themselves through new customer-oriented services. They approached Kendall Consulting Group for help in strategy formulation and implementation, business process reengineering, and the development of new consulting skills in systems professionals.

Approach

Kendall Consulting Group was selected after a review of several hundred firms because of the breadth of services, personalized approach we offered, and our experience with Japanese companies. We worked with senior managers to derive several new strategy elements, including the establishment of a new consulting services group. We worked with senior managers to ensure the implementation path was well understood and to garner support for the strategy. KCG was also asked to further define and implement a multi-week education program for several hundred managers and staff on the consultative approach and consulting skills needed to make the new organization a success.


Key Value

KCG brought their knowledge of business strategy, customer service and consulting to bear in the strategy setting phase of this work. The recommended approach fit the ability of the organization to change and adopt the new strategy. KCG then used its expertise in the development of internal and external consulting organizations to customize and deliver a multi-week education program for several hundred hand-picked staff that were to be the core of the new consulting services. Attendees became enthusiastic supporters of the new strategy and their role as new consultants.

Results

Attendees of the consulting skills education program said the program had changed their mindset and personal abilities. They said they could immediately use the skills in their client work to improve customer satisfaction. Several immediately landed new revenue-generating work attributed to having attended the program. This added momentum to the new strategy. Many said the program was the best they had ever attended.
