Case Study: Organizational Assessment
Major Telecommunications Corporation

Situation

The Advanced Technology Group was under scrutiny. Their mission to develop emerging technologies into revenue-generating products and services was not being satisfied. Ideas and technologies were not getting through the "pipeline." Kendall Consulting Group was brought in to assess group operations and put together a development plan.

Approach

Information was gathered through initial meetings with the Vice President of the division, an anonymous climate survey, and follow-up interviews with the group's managers. Along with KCG's in-depth knowledge of best practices in this area, the information was synthesized into a complete report, summarizing all aspects of group operations and making strategic recommendations.

Key Value

In addition to efficient and effective fact-gathering techniques, Kendall provided the group with informed, objective analysis and recommendations. KCG was able to effectively "hold a mirror up" to the organization and suggest actions that took into account not only what was happening, but also what was happening in the marketplace.

Results

The Advanced Technology Group has been disbanded. Each member of the group had been focused on work for one or two internal divisions. Group members were devolved into the operating units of the business where they were closer to the marketing and commercialization organizations. Managers in the company claim to already see improved results as well as better focus for the advanced technology activities of the company.
