Case Study: Information
Needs Assessment
Major Paper Corporation
Situation
The organization was suffering from inefficient and ineffective production
operations, resulting in high inventory levels, expensive downtimes, and excessive
waste. Confusion and lack of knowledge concerning specifications of finished
products and machinery left employees confused. Kendall Consulting Group was
brought in to assess the company's operations and create a development plan.
Approach
Sixteen focus groups, containing ten representatives, were formed from various
departments within the company. Information was gathered through a series
of interviews and climate surveys to identify the most critical needs of the
employees. Kendall synthesized the information into a complete report, analyzing
all internal operations and providing predominant strategic recommendations.
Key Value
Kendall Consulting Group provided the company with a complete and objective
analysis of it's internal operations. Employee needs and requirements, for
a more effective and efficient workplace, are now in focus. Kendall's work
enabled the executive committee to visualize the company's infrastructure,
and it's needs for improvement.
Results
The organization embarked on a company-wide redesign of production operations.
Employees possess decision making authorities enabling them to produce finished
goods in the most efficient and effective manner. Inventory levels, downtimes,
and wastes have decreased substantially, increasing profitability.
